Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #157

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by the third week of our 30-word, non-pandering, juggling-inclusive, bananarama fanfiction challenge, AND War Rocket Ajax, AND Copernicus Jones, AND a book that comes out in April - those last three courtesy of our guest host, the always high-minded Matt Wilson. Amazing week for Jeff Lemire on both Sweet Tooth and Animal Man, some ridiculously fun ideas being thrown around in Infinite Vacation, some joyful X-Universe images, and some good words for Heart and Luther Strode. Also our kitten Bo sings a song with some shitty slap bass at the end.

One of the covers of the week has a twitter hashtag on it? I think that should get it disqualified, trashcan callback can't save it.

I shall listen to this audio funtasticness asap! But I still can't believe you guys seemingly don't read Invincible. And of course Science Dog.

Although you didn't realize it, both covers are homages, the New Mutants one is from the last issue of their part of Fall of the Mutants (which is even less fun on the inside) http://www.comics.org/issue/44255/cover/4/

It's great to see Matt on here. I like his thorough review style and his sharp humor. Great choice for Evie's temporary replacement.

I've been enjoying Abnett & Lanning's run on New Mutants so far (also as someone who didn't read the '80s book), but this issue was a bit of a yawn. In general it's an interesting direction though, Cyclops having the team track down and deal with all the leftover chaos from various X-Men missions and events, and they write the characters as fun and accessible.

As an X-Men fan, it shames me to say that I never really got into New Mutants. I liked the old Bill Seinkowitz covers, though.
