Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #158

Aw yeah, ABCP is back with about 20 minutes of Evie, and almost two hours of Aaron and guest-host Chris Sims. We make a pretty awesomed announcement for us, which will result in a few weeks without shows for you, but it's pretty important. SMILEYFACE :) Aaron and Chris agree on Batman, Mudman, Cartoon Batman, Geoff Johns, and some other stuff. Big wins for all that stuff, except Geoff Johns, plus some Atomic Robo talk, some The Boys talk, some Jem talk, and nobody at Marvel noticed that the Bendis record is skipping.

Download/subscribe to the show here or in the right sidebar, and leave an iTunes review! Tell us what you think in the comments, and please always remember that you are more than welcome to list your own winners for our categories in the comments. Hell, you can list your own categories for our winners, for all we care. Or list your own winners for your own categories, from your own books. Whatever you want to do.

AND IF YOU WANT TO DONATE TO THE ABCP BABY SHOWER YOU CAN DO THAT OVER THERE --->

I would like to point out that I called this at episode 145. My baby voodoo is never wrong. I have a feeling that the ultrasound is going to show a pokeball.

You know I know I am starting to wonder if Jason Aaron just isn't suited to main stream comics.
I picked up the first issue of Hulk and just thought it was- well-- Dumb.

And listening to you talk about the recent issues just seals that for me.

I actually have read most of the Boys, and my take on it is pretty much exactly what Chris's hypothetical opinion was. Really well done, but the ideas are on exactly the same level as Kick-Ass. I don't know why you're so convinced its a satire of 'grim-n-gritty' superhero comics, it reads to me as every single 'what if super-heroes were real? Wouldn't they be a bit fascist?' Watchmen knock-off, except done by a way better writer.

Evie said...

Honestly for me it's exactly what you say--done by a way better writer. The writing and the narrative pace is excellent. So it's not that I think the idea is so amazingly original, it's that it's really well done, period.

There's no way that 2-3 appearances on SMallville make cyborg more known than a cultural icon like WonderWoman.

Kids don't buy Cyborg costumes at Halloween.

But tons of girls dress up as wonder woman every year.

The Misfits songs really were better.

Yeah, but maybe that animated series that ran for five seasons on Cartoon Network did, genius.

Congrats! I'm honestly so excited for you! I hope you aren't creeped out by that.

May I suggest, keeping with the theme you guys have already established with your names, that you name your daughter Banette? ooh, or Kirlia! That's a girl's name, right?
But seriously, congratulations!

I know this sounds totally sappy and not-at-all-awesome, but having kids makes comics better. You'll see. So happy for the two of you! It's going to redefine awesome for you.

aaron said...

Thanks everybody! It really does mean a lot to us.

Congrats again, guys! I'm sure you'll be great parents!

Big congratulations to you both! That's such exciting news!

Ethan Hoddes said...

Oh, and I guess I technically already congratulated you guys. But since that was tentative, congratulations!

Congratulations you guys! You're gonna be awesome parents. I wish a Molly-like daughter unto you. (But don't take that as my permission for you to be evil crimelords)

Now I must go mud wrestle the urge to get ahold of this Jem cartoon.

Congrats to both of you

Yes, Cyborg had a cartoon for five seasons on Cartoon Network. But so did Wonder Woman. And Flash. And they both had their own prime-time live action television series on major networks. I think they've penetrated the culture at large a bit more than Cyborg.

And while I'm on my douchebaggy "Umm actually" streak, it was Nick Spencer writing Victor Von Doom, not Brian Wood.

Congrats, Aaron and Evie!

Holy snuffles guys, congratulations! Of course, we now have to go back over 9 months of ABCP and look for the clues....
You've Morrisoned us?!?

The CRAZIEST thing about Chris's Jem recap....is that the episode he described is the ONE SINGLE EPISODE OF JEM THAT I CAN PERFECTLY REMEMBER. Seriously. It's almost creepy - I was actually trying to remember Jem episodes the other day, and the racecar episode was the only one that came to mind. My jaw dropped when Sims brought it up.

I guess there must be something about that episode that imprints heavily on people. For good or ill.

And I gotta agree with Chris on Wonder Woman - it's a pretty solid book, but I'm frustrated that it's not taken the opportunity to rework Wonder Woman. The one character who NEEDED to benefit the most from the reboot is not being retooled at all.

Lebeau2501 said...

Wonder Woman is way more iconic than Cyborg. That's a period at the end of that sentence.

Chris
Well I had forgotten about that b/c personally that show was like a seizure in a box.

But if you want some kind of metric
Parade magazine polled it's readers and facebook user for the 10 most popular super heroes.
http://www.parade.com/celebrity/slideshows/editors-pick/facebook-superheroes.html?index=6
Wonder Woman is six Cyborg is cuirously not on the list, Einstein.

Show me Any kind of poll or metric that rates Cyborg anywhere near that character- I dare you.

This shit just got real. Here's some baby humor to lighten the mood.
A married couple rushed to the hospital because the woman was in labor the doctor asked the couple, "I have invented a new machine that you might want to try, it takes some of the labor pains away from the mother and gives it to the father." So the married couple decided that they would try this. So the doctor hooked the machine up and put it on 10% of pain switched from the mother to the father and the husband said "I feel okay turn it up a lot more" so the doctor turned it up to 50% and the husband said "why don`t you just put it all on me cause I`m not feeling a thing" but the doctor warned them "this much could kill you if your not prepared", and the husband replied "I am ready "so the doctor turned the machine up to 100% but the husband didn`t fell a thing so they went home happy with a pain free labor, but when they got home the mailman was dead on the front porch!
