Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #ONE FIFTY FIVE (I keep messing up the titles.)

This QUADRUPLE-SIZED episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast, which is nearly 50% longer than usual, is brought to you by the Awesomed By Comics 30-Word, Non-Pandering, Juggling-Inclusive, Bananarama Fanfiction Challenge! Here are the rules:

1) Entries must be 30 Words.

2) Entries must be fanfiction of some kind (regardless of what you're writing about).

3) Entries must include the act of juggling.

4) Entries that include blatant pandering will be disqualified.

Send your entries to our email address, with the subject line "Bananarama"

(note: fanfiction should not be about Bananarama.)

The winner will receive an AWESOMED BY COMICS PRIZE PAK (haha) which includes two (2) comics written and signed by Greg Pak, and an Apple iPad picture, drawn by me. It may or may not also include some cat food.

We go over our winners and losers from the past two weeks in comics, AND the New York Comic Con! Big wins for Unwritten, Journey Into Mystery, Batman, Birds of Prey, Pokemon Cosplay, Bake Sale, Wonder Woman, Ultimate Spider-Man, and Trevor Cahill. Big losses for those chicks changing into their robot maid outfits in the bathroom.

ABC Podcast Episode #123, plus visual aids

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by some pretty sweet aughts jazz, and the comic book analysis stylings of the delightful Kelly Thompson (from whom you can get lots more here, or here, or here, or here.) And please go get the latest episode of 3 Chicks Review Comics - it'll make us look influential. With Evie out of the country for the week, Kelly and Aaron stage a bit of a "getting to know your taste in comics" marathon, as you might expect from people who have never spoken to each other before, as opposed to people who have lived together for 6 years. Big wins for Wolverine and Jubilee, The Boys, Memoir, and ... Buffy! (Another first!)

Aaron's Pick: Power Girl #20 by Sami Basri

Panel(s) of the Week:

Kelly's Pick, from Batman - Streets of Gotham #19 by Paul Dini and Dustin Nguyen

(Aaron's panel is too damn big to put here, but if you didn't get The Boys #50, flip through it on Wednesday. It's the splash page with the two teams facing off.)

Bonus Crap of the Week:

Kelly's Pick, Mangled Bat-bits from Batman 706, by Tony Daniel

Also, FYI, the issues of Superman/Batman referenced at the end are #'s 51-52 (the utterly brilliant Lil' Leaguers arc) and #78 (the Batman Vs. Superman imaginary battle)

ABC Podcast, Episode #98 and abridged visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics comes to you from Cacapon (Ka-KAY-pon) State Park in Berkeley Springs, WV, where we came for vacation, went home and came back again. The big winner of the week is the fourth issue of Joe Kelly and Max Fiumara's Four Eyes, which we've waited 13 months for; other good showings come from the family of Spider titles, The Boys, Birds of Prey and Heralds (HER-alds). We also have a good chuckle/tsk at DC's pitch-perfect ironical racial stereotyping. Apologies for any wonky sound quality, as we are sharing a mic on a portable setup in the wilderness that also has WiFi. Also apologies for the lack of Panels of the Week, as we don't have our scanner in said wilderness. Also apologies that this show is two days late, but we on vacation (vay-KAY-shun).

ABC Podcast Episode #70 ON LOCATION UPSTATE BOYEEE and LOTS AND LOTS OF VISUAL AIDS

SO, ONCE AGAIN...pardon our appearance as we try out a new logo, please give your yeas and nays in the comments... This very special episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by Fun Facts About Rochester, NY, where we have recorded the show on location at (a hotel a few miles away from) the Strong National Museum of Play. In addition to an exhibit on American Comic Book Heroes and the National Toy Hall of Fame, the museum houses a fully stocked '80s video arcade, a supermarket just for kids, a fantastic interactive Sesame Street exhibition, and enough wandering toddlers to feed a medium-sized nation. Big winners in the comics department this week include Detective Comics, Wonder Woman, Beasts of Burden, Ares, Dominic Fortune, Angela Robinson's The Web, and New Avengers, and hilarious, exasperated furor is reserved for the likes of Blackest Night and JLA. Be sure to peruse the exciting visual offerings below, as there is far more this week than the typical.

Bonus Crap of the Week Link: Here is way more than everything you will ever need to know in a thousand lifetimes about the film Lambada, relevant to this week's Crap of the Week discussion vis a vis Paco "Vibe" Ramone. God I want to die just writing all of that. Anyway, the link above is from something I wrote in 2004 after watching the movie, apologies for the hue and context and quality, etc. You'll know what I mean.

Choke on This Turktopus, Peter Parker: Lest you think Aaron and I are completely those crazy-comic-book-black-sheep-of-the-family types, here is what brother-in-law Chris spent several weeks and trips to Home Depot building for his Halloween costume this year, which we finally saw on Thanksgiving between potatoes and pie. Aaron's sister went as Black Cat, but we didn't ask her to put that on because Aaron would have thrown himself out the window, obviously.

Museum! Of! Play!

THESE ARE COCOONS HOLY SHIT

And finally, some of my favorite inductees in the National Toy Hall of Fame:

Drama League: Bitch and Moan for Justice

Hey, can someone who's really good at Illustrator or something whip me up a green-tinged hard-light construct that resembles a cheese wheel? I think Hal Jordan needs something to go with that whine.

(Normally I would save the Crap of the Week pot-shots for the podcast, but the internet is already alight at the spectacular groanfest that is Justice League: Cry for Justice #1. Brilliant Take Down of the Century most assuredly goes to Caleb Mozzoco, who realized that Hal's little piss parade is really just one big Danzig quote). OK, UPDATE: Cheryl Lynn's Superman-what-has-had-it-up-to-here-with-that-asshat just made me weep awesome sauce.

ABC Podcast Episode #14, and visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by "Two and a Half Men," used around the world either for the crisp petiole or the fleshy taproot. Kooky heroes with claws get lots of love, as does a new indie book inexplicably edited by the guy who created "America's Funniest Home Videos." Special not-to-miss feature is Aaron's Secret Invasion #6 Crap of the Week Flashblast from the Backpast Old Timey Radio Comic Book Haberdashery.

ABC Podcast, Episode #9

Episode #9 of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by trains, because TRAINS ARE AWESOME. Aaron lauds the heroism of a topless Emma Frost, while Evie imagines a Cyclops v. Nightwing inter-company crossover wrestling match. Aaron presents the Crap of the Week Final Crisis #3 Read-Along What the Fuck. Terry Moore and Eternals win big, and also, trains are awesome.
