OH MY GOD YOU GUYS

IT'S HERE, we're going to see Watchmen tonight, hurm hurm hurm n stuff! We didn't do the Thursday midnight or opening night thing because Aaron works a late shift and also we are lazy and would never wake up in the morning. So it's tonight, at a nice, reasonable, 9:15pm in a sprawling Jersey shopping center. They have an awesome Stop and Shop there.

Anyway, I'm going to say something: I don't care how good it is. Seriously. I've read the book, how awesome or crappy it is does absolutely nothing to change the book, and I don't know why people seem to act like it does. I know we don't want regular people to get a wrong or incomplete picture of OUR ART!! or anything, but who cares. I've read enough about the movie to know I'll enjoy it in some way, and it won't be a waste of money, or at least completely. See you on the other side!

(I will add here though that the incompetency of the film adaptation of The Golden Compass gave me a near aneurysm, but that's neither here nor there.)

I agree about Northen Lights (american title: Golden Compass)

I hope they get it right with The Subtle Knife.

From what I've heard, they're not doing The Subtle Knife film because The Golden Compass performed so poorly at the US box office (which is really good news for people who enjoyed the books, if you ask me).

As for Watchmen, the review I got from a lifelong comic book fan was "It's okay," before he spent two hours pointing out everything he thought was wrong with it. That may say more about him than the quality of the movie, though.

Hurry up and post your review! One thing I'd like to know is if you thought your background with the source material affected your viewing at all. I swear I think there were purposeful gaps - like comic book panels in a way - that Snyder put in there so that fans of the book could fill in the rest themselves.

We're actually going to try to do a bonus Watchmen review show (short) after the regular podcast today, so I'll post it here when that happens! And yes, knowing the source material affected it in a bazillion ways, including having constant thoughts like "if I were seeing this for the first time in movie form, I'd think it was preposterous."

Yes, I too, anxiously await your review on both the movie and the week's comics!! :)
