Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #141

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by a nine year-old who returned to his 3rd-grade class the joy of Pokemon through the power of persuasive letter-writing. We saw the Green Lantern movie (and didn't pay for it, thanks to what happened when we tried to see the Yu-Gi-Oh movie.) and then we watched the Green Lantern cartoon thing, and we gave a bunch of awards to Power Girl and Batgirl, two of the strongest and most appealing female characters in comics, both of whom we only have a few more months to enjoy in their current incarnations. Crap to not knowing what the hell is going on in X-Men Schism and we break down why the interview format worked well in Guardians of the Galaxy but it's annoying as all hell in Avengers.

But the real star of this show is PASTA AND VEGETABLES.

YOU WILL NEED:

1 Zucchini
1 Yellow Squash
1 Vidalia Onion
1 Red Pepper
1 Stalk Garlic Stem or Garlic Chives
1 Box Pasta of your choice

Cube the Zucchini, Squash, Pepper and Onions and toss with the garlic stem and a little bit of olive oil and/or butter. Wrap in tin foil and bake at 400 for about 45 minutes. Do about half of a podcast. Cook some pasta. When the veggies are all baked and the pasta is fully cooked, toss the pasta with the veggies and sprinkle some shredded parmesan on top and eat while watching the end of Green Lantern: Emerald Knights which was pretty good. Then go back and do the rest of the podcast.

ABC Podcast, Episode #73 and visual aids

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is brought to you by the world's only horse-engineered audio recording of our cat eating. I know, right, happy holidays! Shocking turns in Mark Waid's The Unknown: the Devil Made Flesh and Brian K. Vaughan's Ex Machina score big, as does Jeff Parker and Steve Lieber's simulated waterboarding in Underground. Kyle Rainer wins the All-Time Super Contest for Cheesiest Ways to Rejoin the Living, and Power Girl gets hit on by the supreme leader of Earth-Diggler. Also, do not miss us and many other special guests on the War Rocket Ajax Christmas Special, available Monday Dec. 21 at noon EST! We sing, like for real.

Before we get to the comics visuals, here's that terrifying Lidsville theme that Aaron insisted I post. Seriously, you will question your own humanity after watching this:

Cover(s) of the Week

Aaron's pick, from Spider-Man #615, cover by Javier Pulido:

Evie's pick, from Dark Avengers #12, cover by Mike Deodato and Rain Beredo:

Panel(s) of the Week

Evie's pick, from Fables #91, by Bill Willingham and Mark Buckingham:

Aaron's pick, from Ex Machina #47 by Brian K. Vaughan and Tony Harris, but it gives too much away if you're reading it in trade so I'll just put up these adorable penguins and bunnies from Tiny Titans:

Bringing Sexy Back to the Green and Black

The Hollywood Reporter reports that Justin Timberlake is one of the three finalists to play Hal Jordan in the upcoming Green Lantern movie. I haven't perused fan-community responses to this, but my guess is that they're mixed. My response to any complainers, and to King Complainer Hal Jordan himself, is this.

UPDATE: Uh, ok, nevermind. This is actually fine with me too, except for the Deadpool thing, which was great, and is now kind of ruined. Doesn't Reynolds know that Marvel is slowly replacing their 27 Wolverine titles with 34 Deadpool titles? Idiot.

Drama League: Bitch and Moan for Justice

Hey, can someone who's really good at Illustrator or something whip me up a green-tinged hard-light construct that resembles a cheese wheel? I think Hal Jordan needs something to go with that whine.

(Normally I would save the Crap of the Week pot-shots for the podcast, but the internet is already alight at the spectacular groanfest that is Justice League: Cry for Justice #1. Brilliant Take Down of the Century most assuredly goes to Caleb Mozzoco, who realized that Hal's little piss parade is really just one big Danzig quote). OK, UPDATE: Cheryl Lynn's Superman-what-has-had-it-up-to-here-with-that-asshat just made me weep awesome sauce.

Drop your horsies

Episode 5, she is up, right over to the right there. Be a non-conformist and join our new forum, and make my week by writing an iTunes review.

Description: Episode #5 of Awesomed By Comics is sponsored by "Two and a Half Men," Mondays on CBS and inhabiting oceans the world over. Aaron complains a lot about plot inertia in this week's comics, and Evie frets over Spider-Man's trytoohardyness. Much celebration of Booster Gold #1,000,000 and Alan Scott's giant "power battery".

Mrs. Horrible, Mrs. Horrible

So, I'm going to give Geoff Johns the benefit of the doubt that this is a joke (click to enlarge):

Because the idea of "Sinestro" being an alien word with undecipherable meaning is pretty hilarious. Stuff like this reminds me of the short-lived Fantastic Four cartoon a few years ago, where they end up in the Negative Zone and meet Annihilus, and Johnny cannot contain himself, saying over and over to Reed "Ask. him. his. NAME!" and then basically giggles through the entire episode.
