ABCP Episode 173 - OCTOBER SURPRISE

Oh hiiiiiiiiiiii. Sorry, we've been locked out of the house for the past two years, nine months and 12 days, it was incredibly inconvenient, the cats are pissed. The point is, since the last episode of Awesomed By Comics, we've had another kid, moved, had a combined four jobs and blah blah blah you don't care. The point is, we got away this weekend and bought some comics and recorded an episode to talk about those comics, some of which are new this (last) week, some of which are not, all of which confused us because what is even going on in comics. We don't know when this will happen again, so join us as we struggle through. MISSED U BBs.

Here are May and Elaine, who don't care.

ABCP Episode 172 - THIS IS NOT A DRILL

Happy New Year! In this episode of Awesomed By Comics, we talk about some books we missed, wonder what happened to events, and look back on--what? Why are you looking at us like that? Why is that vein popping out of your forehead, are you having a--wait why are you screaming STOP SCREAMING! WE'RE SORRY, WE'RE SORRY OKAY?!? WE'VE BEEN BUSY! WE STILL LOVE YOU! WE'LL CHANGE, WE PROMISE WE'LL CHANGE!!

So yeah, after nine months of three job changes each, two coasts, lots of stress eating and zero podcasts, we bring you a brand-spanking-new episode of Awesomed By Comics to kick off 2014. It's not a Year In Review show because we had very little year to review, and it's not a Week In Review show because we talk about comics over several weeks, but it is a real show and we did put in effort so we hope you'll give us another chance. Our New Years Resolution is to do this at least once a month, so we're counting on you to HOLD OUR ASSES ACCOUNTABLE.

Special thank you to guest star Devon Maloney, and to each and every one of you who bothers to listen.

LET'S GO 2014! USA! USA!

DOWNLOAD IT HERE, IT'S REALLY REAL.

And if you're still angry, take it out on this, she deserves it.

ABCP: Update, Plea and News

Heeeeyyyyyy.

So here's the deal. We apparently haven't released an episode of Awesomed By Comics in six months, which I didn't even realize until I came on here to write this post. There is no one single reason for it, and it certainly isn't because we don't love comics and you. Now that May is almost two (!), the "new parents" thing is only an excuse in that it was like the first move in messing with a rubik's cube and then all the rest of it got fucked up--we finally got one side all green and the almost-completed blue side went to hell. So here is a full update on our status, a confession and earnest plea for advice to help us get back on the wagon, and some big news (no, not another goddam baby):

1) When we first started having trouble getting episodes recorded, it was because May wouldn't give us any uninterrupted time--we often would read a bunch of books and prepare for the show, and then couldn't get through it. Now, later in her life than is probably healthy, she finally has her own room, a bedtime, and we can conceivably make this happen more often. Now here's the confession: WE HAVE NOT BEEN READING COMICS. We got off track earlier in the spring, and got so far behind that it's like when you go on a diet and blow it once and then are like "oh well, that's fucked, might as well eat only cupcakes for the rest of the week." Getting caught up has been too daunting, and the most we have done is slowly pulled up to speed on Nova and Guardians of the Galaxy. We don't even know where we left off on the Unwritten. This is how bad things are. So here's where we desperately need your help:

2) TWELVE MONTHLY BOOKS. TELL US WHAT THEY SHOULD BE. We used to pull in something like 12-15 books per week. There is no way we are keeping up with that shit. But we can still get back into our favorite hobby and put out a quality show every few weeks if we read 3-4 titles a week. You know us. You know what we like. We can guess what we'd like, but we barely know what's still being published. We will choose 12 monthly titles, based on your suggestions, and jump in cold. Think about it and let us know in the comments, the sooner the better.

3) Finally, here's the big news: The next time you hear an ABCP, it may very well start "Live from Oakland," because WE ARE MOVING TO CALIFORNIA. Aaron got a new job based in Berkeley, so we are hauling our shit and our cats and our kid to the East Bay on November 1st. Needless to say we are up to our skulls in crap to deal with right now, but the move is as good a chance as ever to turn over a new leaf on the things we love, like the podcast.

So there you have it. We have not been trying to let you down easy, we're just a mess. Help us clean up our act.

xoxoxo Evie

Awesomed By Comics Episode #171 - DIE HARDERER

This episode of Awesomed By Comics is not to be confused with Episode #170, which was fully recorded and edited (on Oscar Night no less), but then infected with a technovirus and now lives in its own pocket universe where you can hear it if you listen extremely closely during the 187th minute of R.E.M. (the sleep, not the band). We're actually at a place where we're giving awards to the current week's comics, although it may or may not be the same current week when this is actually released, you'll never know. Thanks for hangin in, partners.

Oh oh also, enter our "contest" for a whole mess of free(ish) comics, some of which may be very valuable indeed!

ABCP YEAR IN REVIEW 2012!!!

Do you want to know what Evie and Aaron thought of this year's comics? Do you have 100 hours to spare? Then this show is for you! Clocking in at a whopping 136 hours, this 188 hour-long episode recaps the winners and losers in all (some) of comicdom from the last year, as far as we were concerned (and able to remember) this weekend. Sit down, pop in/on your headphones, grab some canned goods because anything perishable will be inedible by the time this show is over, and find out what we thought of the year's comics.

I've already forgotten!

If our feed is still messed up, you can direct-download it here.

If you want to see a picture of a can of beans, you can do that here.

If you want to read this post again, you can do that here.

If you want to see our baby in her homemade Hulk outfit, you can do that here. If you do not, then what is wrong with you.

Not-NYCC Meet Up MOVED TO SUNDAY 10/14!!

Hey friends and lovers! Are you planning to go to NYCC, or otherwise be in the Manhattanish area on Saturday? TOO BAD!

What about Sunday Morning?! That's better!!! Do you want to say hello to us and May, and maybe be part of our next episode (which yes, there will be, shut up)?

Great! Then come to Bryant Park at 42nd Street and 6th Avenue between 11AM and 1PM on SUNDAY, October 14th, where we will be hanging out and taping a show. Check Evie's Twitter feed for the exact location in the park, but we shouldn't be hard to find.

Why aren't we having our meet up at NYCC, you ask? Well apparently to be approved for a press pass you have to not have had a baby and/or have a weekly podcast that has degenerated to semi-monthly. And since they didn't reject us until after tickets were sold out, ta da! Also a park is a way more attractive and chill place to hang out than on the floor in front of the IGN Theater at Javits.

Show up, or risk being mildly judged.

ABCP 167 RETURNS TO GLORY

No mic problems, very few baby problems, a week in which we actually read comics, a new weird sponsor, a post-credits joke and some bitching about Secret Invasion make it feel like 2010 (or 2009 or whatever) all over again! Sure there's a couple of stray nose-blows that we might have edited out in the past, and sure there's some baby yips in there and sure there's no cat interuptions, but it's pretty close to good ol' old school ABCP.  "Ol' Old School?" Is that okay to say? "Ol' old" What about if you have an oldsmobile from when they used to make those? An Old Olds. An Ol' Old Olds. Now that's a spicy biscuits!

Git yours here!

Oh and here's our messed up car:

ABCP 166

Man alive, this podcast has it going on! Let's checklist!

 Listener contributions? CHECK!

Listener contributions that you can only kinda hear because Aaron's mic stopped working at the very beginning and nobody knew it? CHECK!

 Baby interruptions? CHECK!

 Cat interruptions? CHECK!

 Batman talk? CHECK!

PLUS MANY MORE! (it's a turtle.)

Take the survey below, based on this week's books, and you could be on the next show we do!
 GO OVER HERE TO IT.

And now that we've hyped it all up as being super healthy (All the Evie of a regular ABCP, with only half the Aaron!) you can get the show over there in the sidebar, or you can click this right here and get it this way!

I am on cold meds.

WEEK OF 8/8 ABCP SURVEY

Just for the schway of it, let's try something a little new. We'll see what kind of responses we get and whether we can build a show around them (along with our usual opinions on whatever we've had time to get that week)

SO GO OVER HERE AND TAKE THIS FLARK SURVEY!!!!

Ep. 264 - Lost the battle but won the war

The battle to stay awake last night was eventually won by "do not stay awake" before I had a chance to post this, but Chris Sims and I talked about the books that came out this week that Evie and I didn't get to on Friday.

You can listen to that here if you so choose!

Additionally, man we have a cute baby.

BABIES COME BACK! (you can blame it all ... on ... us.)

Rad Baby says SCHLEPISODE 164 is HERE And over there -->

We abandon the usual categories and make up some new ones to bullshit about because frankly if we hadn't, we couldn't have done this show. We talk about all the crap that's been going on in our lives on top of having a 6-month-old baby, including an insane work and family-related travel schedule for Aaron, and a massively disappointing layoff for Evie. (and no, that doesn't give her more time to read comics, in fact she's actually busier than ever.)

We talk Monkeybrain launch, Marvel re-(IT'S NOT A RELAUNCH)-launch, Amazing Spider-Man, some Saga, some Spider-Men, and some Dave Clark Five.

In fact, fuck it. All the music is Dave Clark Five in this one.

Then we get real tired and start to trail off a bit and one of the cats causes problems and then the OH HEY LYNX:

OH HEY LINKS:

Evie's Spider-Man Tangled Web

OK Cupid Enemies

Seriously look at that thing again, that is awesome.

More Like "Ha Ha NOT OOPS BECAUSE HERE IS A NEW EPISODE!"

Can y'all dig it? I'm still suffering from food poisoning! But I did edit the show we taped on Sunday! AND IT IS HERE.  Or over there -->

May 1, 2012

Ha ha OOPS

So on Sunday night we totally recorded Episode #162, but when we were done baby was cranky and it was late so Aaron's like "hey, can you put a post on the blog saying I'll edit this tomorrow and it's on its way?" and I'm like "sure!" and then HA HA I TOTALLY FORGOT and then last night we got food poisoning.

Anyway, point is, there is a new show, Aaron will edit/post it as soon as we get our heads out of the toilet, all will be right with the world.

It's like the Oscars, if... oh you should probably just watch the Oscars

Oh man, you guys. We were SO CLOSE. We got most of our comics read, almost finished our lists, were totally like "what better night to bring the show back than actual Oscar night!" We really had it all sewn up. And then Aaron got sick, and my show prep got interrupted by baby duty, and GOD I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD A HAIRCUT SINCE AUGUST. Anyway, we are going to try really, really hard to at least finish prep at some point tonight and then record tomorrow night. If we all work together, dreams can come true!

Thank you, as always, for your undying loyalty and patience. At least those of you who are still loyal and patient.

UPDATE: And now Aaron has Conjunctivitis. So maybe not.
