ABCP Episode #105 plus visual aids

This episode of the Awesomed By Comics Podcast is brought to you by DIN-O-SAURS, DIN-O-SAURS, which, hundreds of years ago, were the most. Speaking of Hundreds (wooooo segue!) Ex Machina comes to an end after 50 issues, and there is much oddly vague discussion, so as not to give away the ending for those who read this in trade. Avengers Academy shines, Old Bruce Wayne is a prick, Honey West is super fun, and Israeli snacks are delicious. Also there is an phat beatz.

Yes! Welcome back!
Thanks in advance for the unspoilery Ex Machina talk; I'm one of those trade-waiters on that title.

And yeah, that Fables cover is stunning.

I'll be good and not spoil in the comics, but I LOVED LOVED LOVED the last issue of Ex Machina. I was really apprehensive because I didn't care for issue #49, and I really disliked issue #60 of YtLM.

The surprises were so different and so much better than I expected. (Better here=more surprising, obviously they SUCKERPUNCHED MY SOUL).

Loved the picks for panel of the week. Although Dr. Doom's explanation on his usage of doors in Avengers: Infinity Gauntlet was HIL-arious.

Welcome back!

Uggh, Evie I'm going to blame you for this. Re: Mephisto's role in OMIT-Well, he Doctor Strange is the Master of BLACK Magic...

I'll let myself out.

I think you guys are way harsh on the OMIT stuff. I read the scene with the doctor saying the "power of love" as entirely ironic, since the readers know it is entirely the power of Mephisto.

And I think you should post a picture of the panel from Daughters of the Dragon so that we can see the same picture that cracked you guys up so much!

You know Danny, I kind of think you're right--the problem is that I evaluated that page when I read it, and was like UGGGGHHGHGHG, and then had to reevaluate later after I read the whole thing and thought about it, and the UGUGUGUGG feeling won't go away even though intellectually I can give him the benefit of the doubt, maybe.

I'm glad you guys didn't like Michael Cera as Scott Pilgrim. I've actually been avoiding the comics because people didn't seem outraged that Michael Cera was going to be starring in the movie. It made me think the character in the comics was similar to the character Cera plays in every single movie and that is just not a character I'm interested in reading about. But since he was apparently lousy in the role maybe I'll give the comics a chance.

Man, I was this close to ordering that Honey West book. Hope my shop has it.

Props to Aaron for making the Pudge Rodriguez reference on the same day that iFanboy's Conor cracked wise about the 3-D Man having the speed of all three Molina brothers. It's Catchers Week here in Geekland.

Thank you so much for not spoiling Ex Machina. I'm even more psyched for the conclusion now, but still waiting 2 months for the last trade.

I was gonna comment on O.M.I.T., but then I thought: Why?

Is there an extended dance mix of "Dinosaurs" available, and if so, where can I get it??? That jam is the most, it's the cat's pajamas.

I have to go now; headed to my LCS to buy the Codebreakers TPB. Proof of how much I value your opinion, since I've heard no one else talking about this book.

I like to think that doctor tells all the families of the patients he can't save that they just didn't love them enough...

Hey, just figured I'd chime in to A) agree that Doc Doom's explaining his entrance to Spidey in Infinity Gauntlet was awesome, and B) to try and clear up Evie's confusion on ASM. Mephisto is still totally why May didn't die. Strange still refused to help, which is why Pete is all "I know I shouldn't have asked you to do that now" when he goes to him. And the Spider-writers and editors have said for the whole period since BND that the reset of his secret identity was something not related to the deal with Mephisto, hence the whole Illuminati thing.

Still doesn't make the 'love' speech any less transparent. Joe might as well have drawn himself in panel saying "Hey, it's OK, he only made the deal because he loves his aunt so much! It's not bad or stupid, it's LOVE, dummies!"

Gaz-L said...

Ack, also got a Crap of the Week which is also from Daughters of the Shadow, but not the art. It's the name of Daredevil's super-secret all chick death squad. 'The Nail'? It's one of those things that sounds cool until you think about it. 'Yeah, Nail, like the pointy things you hammer, because they're deadly and dangerous, that's cool!'. Nope. Think. They work for the HAND. Yes. They called the all girl ninja team after FINGERnails. Because girls like fingernails and manicures, right?

Loved the end of Ex-Machina, although I feel like the pacing on the last arc was off. It felt a little rushed, as if a few issues back BKV looked at his watch and thought "look at the time. Let's wrap this mother up."

You bagged on The Social Network really? Fincher isn't enough to give this a little respect? Luckily you were saved by the Zack Attack love at the end.
