Awesomed By Comics Podcast Episode #147

Whoa Nelly! This 147th episode of the Awesomed By Comics Website is brought to you by a little speed lesson! You got a need for speed? Then let's rev it up! Speed-style! VROOM VROOM VROOOOOOOOM.

This week we bid a melancholy and vaguely disappointing farewell to Batgirl, which has been one of the entire industry's most solid titles, month-after-month, for the last two years, and whose lead character is not going to be appearing in the relaunch stuff for a while anyway. We also bid a lousy farewell to this incarnation of Birds of Prey, who deserved better than the sendoff they got. As Thor might apparently say, "Weak sauce, brah. Totes weak sauce." The Unwritten takes an interesting turn, and might be setting itself up for a pretty ballsy move, while Cloak and Dagger make a relationship book work in the midst of an event tie-in. Plus Squrlgurl, and also Evie's in a book, kinda.

And if this isn't enough Aaron for you, or if you want to listen to a bunch of guys talk about whatever for a couple of hours and have a lot of fun doing it, you can listen to last week's episode of Randumb Idiocy featuring Aaron, our pal Euge (AKA Adam WarRock,) our other pal DeWayne Feenstra, his brother who is now our pal David, and our lettering - slash - pigeon-hero-maker - slash - make-someone-in-a-book-named-Evie pal Joe Caramagna.

Download/subscribe to the show here or in the right sidebar, and leave an iTunes review! Tell us what you think in the comments, and please always remember that you are more than welcome to list your own winners for our categories in the comments. Hell, you can list your own categories for our winners, for all we care. Or list your own winners for your own categories, from your own books. Whatever you want to do. And if you feel like donating, there's a button over there with which you can do just that! (Or save your money to buy my record when it comes out, which I also fully support.)

Covers and stuff later.

* Also of note: Yes, I am aware that I forgot to bleep out the name of that guy's city, but the rest of his letter, had we read it verbatim, would have made it clear that that's where he lived anyway.

** Also also, here's that comic Evie mentioned. Please note that while it is drawn quite well and is pretty clever, this made me sad to read.

Quick update on the award tally: people have volunteered for episodes 1 through 70 & 108 through 140. We're almost there! We only have 38 more episodes to assign and complete in about three weeks! That's not too bad. Just to gauge the progress, would some of the volunteers comment on how far along their tally's they are? Any other questions or concerns, my email again is zbg333@gmail.com

Oh my god, please stop saying "Squirlgrl" in that serial killer voice!! Totally creeps me out. Otherwise, great show!

I think #150 should have a podcast-wide reboot where you are both retconned into horses...

I actually quit the game when I got stuck at the Water Temple as a kid, but I cheated my way past it last week on my own Ocarina replay.

Why doesn't Ganon make every temple the Water Temple? The Water Temple in Link to the Past was a pushover. I think I must have blocked that part of Ocarina out of my traumatized mind. I get a chill down my spine whenever I have to wear iron boots or fire arrows into the sun.
Thanks for talking about all of my horsey thoughts, guys. I'm working on a special project specifically for ABCP, since Marvel and DC has no need of my amateur and otherwise unrefined talents. Expect mediocre things!

Oh, and Ziah...
I'm still planning on reporting on episodes 108-122. I'm sure that we can pick up those extra 38 episodes among the rest of us if it gets down to the wire and nobody has claimed them.

I can do episodes 140-149, if no one else is available to do them!

@Lebeau2501
I know. I included you in finished episodes.
@Shep
Great! Those weren't yet assigned. But if you do it, DocWhiskey already did 140 so start at 141. That would be helpful.
Summary: we need episodes 71 though 107 divied up.

Hey guys great show and I have to agree with your love of Bryan Q Miller's Batgirl. However, I think they dealt with the Black Mercy problem in story. Since Stephanie didn't actually have a Black Mercy attached to her. She only breathed in a crushed version of the Black Mercy the hallucinogens it produced were not as powerful so she was able to escape its affects. Personally I loved that her hearts desire was to continue being Batgirl.

Anyway, sorry for nerding out. Love the show, looking forward to episode 150.

I live about 5 minutes away from a Wawa.
If I didn't, I would totally drive 45 minutes to get to one.

Water Temple? (shudders)

Bryan Q. Millar said in an interview that the current story arc was supposed to conclude around issue 29 or 39. He didn't know that 24 was going to be the last until he was in the middle of writing issue 22.
I'll miss Stephanie Brown. It was the most fun book I've read in a while.

Sorry 29 or 30, not 39

That's bogus. It really hurts my brain when a publisher sets limitations on good writers. Astonishing X-Men's first few runs took, like 4 months to hit the shelf between issues, but they were good and now it's on #40.

Why is there no Power Girl #1 slated for the DC reboot???

So,ebody just volunteered for episodes 71-80. 28 to go! Can the people who volunteered for the episodes tell me how far along they are? I'd like to make sure I've set enough time aside to properly format it.

Suzanne de Nimes (suedenim) said...

What Simon said. The Black Mercy is partly a meta thing. It's not showing that "fighting people" is Steph's "fondest desire," but that she wants to keep being Batgirl. Or in other words, she wants her story to continue instead of being cast off into limbo by a line-wide reboot.

Hi. I'm Ragtime. I am not offended that you said Philadelphia. I was just trying to be general -- not anonymous.

@Ziah I'm almost done listening to all of my episodes. I didn't realize there was a year-end show in the eps that I chose. I just have to go back over what I wrote down and google the creators and tally them. What would be the best format to get the info to you? Could you email me with what you want the info to look like when you get it? greg.deaner@yahoo.com
